Study Abroad

Programs

All Clemson University students are encouraged to incorporate a study abroad experience into their overall Clemson Experience. Programs are available for all disciplines and interests.  These include faculty-led programs, and programs available through Clemson's partnerships and affiliations with overseas universities and study abroad providers and institutions.

Faculty-Led Programs

2008 Faculty-Led Programs Brochure

Each year, Clemson faculty members lead and direct study abroad programs at locations around the world.  You travel with CU faculty and take CU courses. The majority of these programs take place during spring break, Maymester, or a summer session. You are registered for CU courses and receive a grade for these courses just as you would if you were on campus. Costs include Clemson tuition and fees, a study abroad fee, and other additional program costs (for items such as airfare, meals, and accommodations) which vary by program.

Exchange Programs

Clemson has exchange agreements with many institutions around the world.  These exchange agreements give you the chance to study at an overseas university, and "in exchange" give a student from the overseas university a chance to study at Clemson. While overseas, you remain registered at Clemson in a course called SAP 101.  This course maintains your status as a full-time Clemson student.  You will enroll directly in classes at the overseas university. You must have your classes at the overseas university pre-approved so that you will receive transfer credit (hours only, not grades) after we receive a copy of the transcript from the overseas university. Costs include Clemson tuition and fees, a study abroad fee, and your personal living and travel expenses.

Third-Party Provider Programs

Many study abroad opportunities are available through third party providers.  Clemson maintains memberships and affiliations with a number of these providers.  Generally, third party providers give you assistance with logistical arrangements (travel, visas, etc.), as well as with the classes and academic components of your study abroad experience.  While overseas, you remain registered at Clemson in a course called TSAP 101.  This course maintains your status as a full-time Clemson student.  Class enrollments while you are overseas are made through the third-party provider. You must have your classes pre-approved so that you will receive transfer credit (hours only, not grades) after we receive a copy of the transcript from the third-party provider. Costs include a study abroad fee, program fees (paid directly to the third party provider), and your personal living and travel expenses.

Clemson University Brussels Center

Clemson’s connection with Brussels and Belgium began with its founder, Thomas Green Clemson who was a senior U.S. diplomat in Brussels from 1844 to 1850. Those connections were revived with the founding of the Thomas Green Clemson University Brussels Center (CUBC) in 2005.  CUBC is a partnership between Clemson University, ICHEC (Institut Catholique des Hautes Études Commerciales) Brussels Management School, and UCL (Université Catholique de Louvain).  CUBC is part of Clemson's International Portals Initiative to expand opportunities for education, research, economic development, and public service to locations around the world. Students on these summer or semester programs are enrolled in Clemson University Courses, paying Clemson in-state tuition and a program fee that varies per program.  Students are taught in English by a combination of Clemson faculty and approved Belgian faculty. *The College of Business and Behavioral Sciences is announcing their new Fast Track Business Program in Brussels! *
