Leisure Skills - Pilates

Course Description

This course is designed to give students an understanding of the history, philosophy, and fundamental movement concepts of Pilates.

Course Objectives

  1. Understand the history and emergence of Pilates.
  2. Develop an understanding of the Pilates philosophy of Contrology.
  3. Demonstrate proficiency in the core Pilates movements.
  4. Demonstrate understanding of the role Pilates plays in fitness programming.

Example Course Outline

  • Weeks 1-2: Intro to Pilates history, movements concepts and fundamentals,
  • Week 3-4: Mapping the movements
  • Week 5-8: Level 1 workouts
  • Week 9: Level 2 exercises and add ins
  • Week 9-11: Mixed Level workouts
  • Week 12: Observation workouts
  • Week 13-14: Mixed level workouts and Final review.
