Leisure Skills - Shag

Course Objectives (Intermediate Shag)

  1. Define the concepts/principles of the shag.
  2. Identify key benefits of shag and explain their impact from a social, physical and emotional aspect.
  3. Develop and demonstrate shag routines from steps learned.
  4. Define and analyze key dance components of style, leading, following, posture, and etiquette.

Intermediate Shag Dance Class Description

You will work on improving your ability to improvise, add style, musicality and many additional moves to you dance vocabulary. Each semester we will cover a different routine that will include 20-30 moves including Mirror patterns, Male lead, Female lead, Basic Variations & Fancy Footwork.

Advanced Shag Dance Class Description

Learn a competition level performance routine and demonstrate. You will learn and demonstrate breaking down the dance to teach a group of beginners how to dance basic Shag steps. You will learn the basics of the reverse Lead & Follow roll in order to teach a basic Shag moves class without a partner. You will also create moves of your own and choreograph a short routine.
