Welcome!

Dear Prospective Student,
Richard Goodstein, chair of the Department of Performing Arts

Thank you for your interest in the Clemson University Department of Performing Arts and our Production Studies in Performing Arts degree. If you would like to pursue your passion for the arts, study with an engaged and outstanding faculty, and take advantage of one the finest performing arts facilities in the United States, we invite you to Clemson University!

  • THE MAJOR

The Production Studies in Performing Arts Bachelor of Arts degree is a nationally distinctive program that will prepare you for a career in many aspects of the arts. The curriculum offers separate concentrations in music, theatre, and audio technology. Classes combine studies in performance, technology, production, theory, and history into a unified program of study. In addition to discipline-specific concentrations, all performing arts students at Clemson take core classes within the major that give each student the tools to be successful in a wide variety of performing arts professions. You will also choose from more than 70 minors and select elective courses tailored to your individual interests. Click on any of the links on the top right side of this page for more information and to see what some of our alumni are up to, please visit Alumni News.

  • THE FACULTY

Our faculty are dedicated to a hands-on experiential education and our students participate in undergraduate research projects and off-campus opportunities that give them professional experience and introduces them to multi-disciplinary studies. A culture of performance excellence and small classes makes each student a vital partner in the educational process. Using the Brooks Center for the Performing Arts as a living arts laboratory, we welcome students seeking a unique program of study in the performing arts. Our students not only work with professional venues such as the Kennedy Center, Spoleto Festival, and the O'Neill Theatre Center, but they also travel nationally and internationally to such venues as the Fringe Festival in Scotland. You can see specific information about our faculty by following the links on the top right side of this page.

  • ADMISSIONS

Admissions to the Production Studies in Performing Arts degree is a two-step process. First, students should apply to Clemson by the December 1 priority deadline, send an official high school transcript with senior year courses listed, and request official SAT or ACT scores be sent to Clemson directly from the testing agency. For further information regarding the admissions process, please go to www.clemson.edu/admission. Secondly, all students are required to pass a departmental audition/interview.

  • AUDITIONS/INTERVIEWS

In order to be considered for admission to Clemson University in Performing Arts (music, theatre, or audio technology), you must complete an interview/audition.  The audition dates for the 2010-2011 school year are on Saturday, January 30, 2010 and Saturday, February 13, 2010.  All interview/auditions should be completed by Friday, April 02, 2010 to be considered for admittance in 2010-2011 academic year.  Preference will be given to those who complete their audition before Thursday, April 1. We normally place students on a wait list after April 1 as our freshman class is filled by then. To reserve space at one of our auditions, please submit the Audition Application Form (see link to the right of this page) no later than one week prior to your selected audition date. For more information, you may contact the departmental office at 864-656-3043 or via e-mail me at Perf-Arts-L@clemson.edu. There is additional audition/interview information available on the Auditions Link.

We invite you to become a part of our program. Our faculty and staff will do everything possible to ensure your comfort – from your first visit to the Brooks Center through your graduation.
