Minor in Performing Arts

Student in any major can pursue a minor in music or theatre.
No entrance audition is required and the curriculum can be completed in two years.

MUSIC MINOR

The music minor requires 22 credit hours, including private lessons, music theory, music history, and electives. No audition is required.

  • Four semesters in private (applied) lessons (MUSIC 151, 152, 251, 252)
    • Students must choose a major instrument or voice
    • Applied lesson tuition fee of $305/semester is required - scholarships are available
  • Two semesters of Music Theory and Aural Skills - MUSIC 205/207 and 206/208. Please Note: Music 205/207 is only offered in the Spring Semester for music minors.
  • One advanced music history class (MUSIC 415 or 416)
  • Four semesters of large ensemble (selected from Music 323, 361, 362, 363, 369, 370, 371, 372) or secondary keyboard study (organ, carillon, or accompanying) for keyboard minors.
  • One 3 credit hour music elective at the 300 or 400 level

THEATRE MINOR

The theatre minor requires 20 credit hours including dramatic literature, theatre history, a specialty area of concentration, practicum, and electives. No audition is required.

  • One semester of Dramatic Literature (THEA/ENG 429 or 430) or Shakespeare (ENG 411)
  • One semester of Theatre History (THEA 315, 316, or 317)
  • Two semesters of a specialty area
    • Acting (THEA 278 and 479)
    • Theatre History (THEA 315 and 316)
    • Playwriting (THEA 347, 447, 372, and 472)
    • Creative Drama (THEA 376 and 476)
    • Scenic or Lighting Design (THEA 377 and 477 or 487 or 497)
    • Directing (THEA 376 and 476)
  • Two semesters of Theatre Practicum (THEA 279)
  • Six credit hours of theatre electives at the 300 or 400 level

There is no minor in audio engineering at Clemson.
