Music Concentration

The music emphasis concentration cohesively combines studies in performance, music theory, music history, music technology, and arts administration into a program that encourages students to tailor their studies to their specific career aspirations. With more than 20 performing groups from which to choose, students can participate in any number of musical ensembles, designed not only around their specific talents, but also those they want to develop. Recent ensemble performances include the Washington National Cathedral, the Music Educators National Conference Regional Convention, and the South Carolina Music Educators National Conference Convention, among many others.

Private lessons are available for every vocal student and instrumentalist, including harp, jazz guitar, and piano, carillon, and all the wind instruments. Many of our students intern at festivals such as the Spoleto Festival in Charleston, and have the opportunity to work with the vast array of traveling artists who perform in our Brooks Center for the Performing Arts. The experiential nature of the curriculum and diverse opportunities for growth allow graduates to move into successful careers and prestigious graduate programs.
