Percussion Studies
Dr. Paul Buyer is Director of Percussion and Associate Professor of Music. The percussion studio typically involves 20-25 students, actively performing in a variety of ensembles and representing a variety of majors.
Percussion Studies at Clemson University are designed to develop a high level of musicianship and performance appropriate to the curriculum of each student, as well as provide students with a variety of enriching musical opportunities and experiences and a well-rounded total percussion education
Performance opportunities for percussionists include the Clemson University Drumline and Tiger Band, Percussion Ensemble, Steel Band, Gigging Steel Band, Jazz Ensemble, Jazz Combo, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Basketball Pep Band, and Symphony Orchestra.
Private lessons are also offered and encompass rudimental and concert snare drum, mallet/keyboard percussion, timpani, drumset, world percussion, Latin percussion, multiple percussion, and accessories.
Percussionists enjoy quality equipment and a healthy and ever-growing collection of concert, marching, world, and orchestral percussion instruments. Guest masterclasses, workshops, and concerts are also an integral part of the percussion program. Students have the opportunity to get involved in the South Carolina Percussive Arts Society and attend the annual "Day of Percussion."
The Department of Performing Arts is housed in the Brooks Center, a first-class facility featuring practice rooms, rehearsal rooms, teaching studios, and the Brooks Theatre . Percussionists are encouraged to explore the department's BA in Production Studies in Performing Arts as well as our traditional music minor.
