Professor Monty Craig, Jazz Guitar

Professor Monty Craig teaches jazz guitar in the Department of Performing Arts. He is also a well known and respected jazz guitarist and bandleader. Professor Craig studied at the University of South Carolina with classical guitarist Christopher Berg and jazz guitarist Jim Mings. He also attended the Berklee College of Music to study with guitarists Al Defino, Brett Wilmont, Randy Roos, and saxophonist George Garzone.
Professo Monty Craig

Professor Craig was member of the prestigious United States Army Band of New York City. In New York City he also performed regularly with numerous local musicians and received intensive training with his two most important musical mentors—Verve recording artist Kurt Rosenwinkle and Ben Monder, best known for his work as guitarist with The Maria Schneider Jazz Orchestra

An active performer, bandleader, and arranger, Professor Craig is the director/arranger for Alma De Candela, one of South Carolina’s premiere Orquestra Latina that features musicians from Cuba, Columbia, and Puerto Rico. He is the chief writer/director for FunkShua, a modern jazz/fusion ensemble that tours the southeast, and a member of Professor Trio, a group that plays classic jazz and rhythm and blues.

Furthermore, Professor Craig is the director of the Monday Night Jazz Series at The Handlebar in Greenville, South Carolina.
