Clemson Female Vocal Group Wins National Recognition
TakeNote, Clemson University’s all-female a cappella vocal ensemble, recently earned an A Cappella Community Awards 2007 for Favorite Female Collegiate Group a by the Contemporary A Cappella Society (CASA).
“We are very proud of the ladies of TakeNote and their dedication to singing, and particularly their dedication to quality a cappella performance,” said Dan Rash, director of choral activities at Clemson.
Every spring, CASA announces the community awards, which include nearly 20 categories, ranging from Favorite Pop/Rock Group, Favorite Jazz Group, Favorite Classical Group, Favorite High School Group, and Favorite Professional Album. The winners are determined by public vote, submitted on-line at the CASA Website.
In addition to winning in the female college award, TakeNote also earned the 2007 Favorite Scholastic Album award for their most recent recording, Now That We Have Your Attention.
Other 2007 CASA Community Awards winners are the highly acclaimed recording artists Take 6 (Favorite Religious Group), the King Singers (Favorite Classical Group), and The Alley Cats (Favorite Doo Wop Group).
“It’s an honor to be included on a list that features such esteemed company,” said Rash.
TakeNote is Clemson’s only all-female a cappella ensemble and is currently comprised of 15 women. The group performs a wide range of musical selections arranged for voice, such as “Sweet Home Alabama,” “These Boots Were Made for Walking,” “Best of My Love,” and “Have a Little Faith in Me.”
The Contemporary A Cappella Society is an international non-profit organization dedicated to the promotion and encouragement of contemporary a cappella music.
