Applied Music Faculty

Professor Ian Bracchitta, Bass

Ian Bracchitta teaches bass in the classical, jazz, and popular idioms in the Department of Performing Arts. In addition to his teaching duties at Clemson University, Prof. Bracchitta serves as the assistant principal bassist of the Greenville Symphony and its chamber orchestra, principal bassist of the Greater Spartanburg Philharmonic, and the Heritage Chamber Orchestra. He also performs in the bass section of the Charlotte Symphony Orchestra and as jazz bassist in many of their "pops" programs. Among his many jazz performances, Prof. Bracchitta as shared the stage with Dianne Schuur, Chris Vadalla, and John Stowell. Prof. Bracchitta’s jazz trio has performed throughout North Carolina and South Carolina. What’s more, he performs with the New York-based chamber ensemble, Synchronicity, whose debut recording was released in 2000. The ensemble made its New York City debut at the Merkin Concert Hall in November 2001. He has performed with the national Broadway tours of Sugar Babies, A Chorus Line, Annie Get Your Gun, West Side Story, Grease, Victor Victoria, Chicago, The Sound of Music, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Ragtime, and Fiddler on the Roof. Prof. Bracchitta has also appeared with Burt Bacharach, The Fifth Dimension, Rich Little, Shirley Jones, Carol Channing, and Carol Lawrence. He has performed on regional commercials and industrial soundtracks. Recording credits include Synchronicity’s "Like Minds," Joe Burke’s "Simply Romantic", Oracle’s "Evasive Actions" and Peggy Haden’s "I'm Glad There Is You." Prof. Bracchitta also serves as on the faculty of the South Carolina Governor's School For the Arts and Humanities. He received a Bachelor of Music Performance degree from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and studied jazz at the Berklee College of Music in Boston.
