Professor Alexander Harrington is an assistant professor of theatre in the Department of Performing Arts where he teaches directing and other courses as well as direct the Clemson Players. In addition to his teaching and directing duties at Clemson, Prof. Harrington is the founder and artistic director The Eleventh Hour, a New York City-based theatre company. Richard II, Henry IV, Parts 1 & 2, and Henry V are just a few of his directing credits with The Eleventh Hour.
Prof. Harrington has co-produced his own two-part adaptation of Dostoevsky’s The Brothers Karamazov with La MaMa E.T.C. and The Culture Project. Furthermore, he was an original member of the Lincoln Center Theater Directors Lab and a participant in The Actors Studio Playwrights/Directors Unit. Prof. Harrington has also adapted and directed Chekhov’s short story The Kiss and Sherwood Anderson’s The Philosopher for the stage. Other directing credits include Billy Budd, Twelfth Night, and the premieres of Edward Einhorn’s Linguish at the New York International Fringe Festival; Kathryn Sanders’ So Alone, Last Night in Paris, and Surprises from a Cloud; John A. Adams’ In the Shadow of a Dream; and Lella Hein’s Finder Keeper, Lion Taming in Miami and Tender Loving Care.
Prof. Harrington is collaborating with Ms. Hein on the development of the children’s musical Oriundina. Prof. Harrington received a Master of Fine Art from the Louisiana State University. He has taught courses in Shakespeare, Greek tragedy, and directing at The Gallatin School at New York University and Shakespeare at the Herbert Berghof Studio in New York.
