Applied Music Faculty

Professor Sharon Sawyer, Piano

Professor Sharon Sawyer teaches piano in the Department of Performing Arts. She is a graduate of the Eastman School of Music, University of Rochester, where she majored in piano and theory. She also holds a Professional Certificate in piano and theory that was awarded by the National Music Teachers Association. Since 1992, she has served as adjunct instructor of piano, teaching classes in both applied and group piano. Prof. Sawyer also developed the piano program and served as a faculty member for the Pickens County Lakes and Mountains School for the Arts. She has served as an adjudicator for the South Carolina Music Teachers Association and for the National Music Club Federation. For the past twenty-six years, she has traveled throughout the United States, serving as adjudicator for the American College of Musicians. A past president of the Lower Piedmont Music Teachers Association, Prof. Sawyer is currently chair of their summer scholarship program. She maintains an active performance schedule as an accompanist for professional musicians in the area, and pianist/organist for the University Lutheran Church. Additionally, she has been a recitalist in duo and four hands piano concerts in North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
