Dr. Lisa Sain Odom

Dr. Lisa Sain Odom is a professor of voice and choral ensemble director in the Department of Performing Arts. She holds a Doctor of Musical Arts (D.M.A.) degree in Vocal Performance from the University of South Carolina, as well as Vocal Performance degrees from Bob Jones University (B.M.) and Converse College (M.M.).

Professor OdomDr. Odom has been seen in concert halls and on opera stages throughout the world from the Carolinas to California to Europe. She has appeared with local orchestras and opera companies including the South Carolina Philharmonic, Foothills Philharmonic, Spartanburg Repertory Theatre, Converse College Opera Theater, Opera at USC, and the Bob Jones University Opera Association. Some of her roles include Isabelle/Madeline (The Face on the Barroom Floor), Musetta (La Boheme), Anne Page (The Merry Wives of Windsor), Monica (The Medium) and Countess Ceprano (Rigoletto).

Equally comfortable in the world of musical theater, Dr. Odom has performed with various community theater organizations, including Centre Stage-South Carolina!, Greenville Little Theater, Spartanburg Little Theater, and Tryon Little Theater. She recently performed the role of K.D. McLady in the world premier of DOGS: The Musical at the Piccolo Spoleto Festival. Some of her favorite musical theatre roles include Julie Jordan (Carousel), the Baker’s Wife (Into the Woods), Chairy (Barnum!), Jeannie (Brigadoon) and Rose (The Secret Garden). A televsion and film actress as well, Dr. Odom recently appeared in the film Leatherheads, directed by George Clooney.

An accomplished concert soloist, some of Dr. Odom’s appearances include soprano soloist in Mozart’s Missa Brevis with the American Institute of Musical Studies in Graz, Austria; Ophelia in Thomas’ Hamlet with the South Carolina Philharmonic; featured soloist in the New Year’s Eve Pops Concert with Foothills Philharmonic; recital with Opera Carolina; and the role of Anna in Kurt Weill’s Seven Deadly Sins with USC Symphony and Ballet. She was a 2007 National Association of Teachers of Singing Intern and has worked with acclaimed teachers of both classical and contemporary vocal pedagogy such as Robert Edwin, Stephanie Samaras, Jeannette LoVetri and Donald Simonson. She is part of the soprano trio, “A Blonde, a Brunette and a Redhead,” currently performing in concert across the Carolinas.

Dr. Odom has served as musical and theater director for many community productions and has directed shows, including The Best Christmas Pageant Ever (musical direction), Arsenic and Old Lace, Christmas Spectacular! (musical direction) and Barab’s children’s opera The Toy Shop. In addition to her work at Clemson, she has served on the music faculties of North Greenville University and Western Carolina University.
