“May Arise!” the newest recording by Clemson University guitar professor David Stevenson, is an East meets West collaboration. The recording features Stevenson’s intricate guitar playing with and a variety of global percussion instruments, including the Indian tabla, African talking drum, Tibetan bells, as well as Middle Eastern frame drums.
In addition to teaching guitar at Clemson, Stevenson performs throughout the Southeast and teaches at Mars Hill College and the University of North Carolina-Asheville. His playing has been praised by “Acoustic Guitar” magazine for its intelligent musical portraits. “His special talent is for creating moods that take you places you probably haven’t been before.”
Joining Stevenson on the May Arise! is master percussionist River Guerguerian. Guerguerian frequently performs live on a variety of local stages, most notably with Free Planet Radio the Asheville-based world fusion trio. He can also be heard on dozens of local recordings. Guerguerian described his collaboration with Stevenson as “a truly rich musical experience. His thoughtful and creative compositions are underscored with a sensitive virtuosity.”
