New Digital Production Suite Brings Video Capability To Audio Technology Program

The Department of Performing Arts recently completed the installation of a new digital media production suite in the Brooks Center for the Performing Arts. “The suite puts some of the most advanced digital production software and equipment in the hands of students studying audio technology at Clemson,” said Bruce Whisler, audio technology professor.

The centerpiece of the suite is the DigiDesign D-Command control surface for use withdigital production suite the Pro Tools® software package. The system features a dedicated, center section panels for EQ and dynamics plug-in editing, as well as per-channel control processing functions, routing, and automation modes. The facility also has a large-screen LCD video monitor and surround-sound speaker system.

“This room provides a more comfortable and better-equipped environment for editing and mixing. Enrollment growth in the audio program has also necessitated another workspace for advanced students, and the video capabilities of this system are an important addition. Many jobs available to audio students require video skills as well,” explained Whisler.

Several senior audio technology students in the advanced recording class were among the first to get their hands on the new system last spring. “They were able to mix and edit their senior projects and test run the system,” added Whisler.

Throughout the summer, Whisler and a group of students have been getting to know full capabilities of the system in anticipation of the fall semester. New Brooks Center audio intern, Nicole Rogers, has already completed several projects involving video.
