Hi! I serve as the Director of Freshman Academic Programs for Clemson University and serve as the coordinator of the Early Success Program (ESP). In addition to ESP, I coordinate additional programs that are focused on helping freshman students transition successfully into college life at Clemson! I earned my undergraduate degree in Sociology from Lander University in 2005 and my Master’s in Educational Counseling from Clemson in 2007. Prior to taking this position in 2012, I worked at Young Harris College, Georgia Tech, and for the Bridge program at Tri-County Technical College.
I am married and the proud mother of 5 year-old twins — Oliver and Matilda. In my free time I enjoy practicing yoga, meditation, and I love to read! Anne Lamott, Glennon Doyle Melton, and Barbara Brown Taylor are among my favorite authors. I consider it a privilege to work with this program and I look forward to meeting each of you and being a part of your journey at Clemson!
Welcome to Clemson! I am the Coordinator for Freshman Academic Programs and will be involved with the Early Success Program this summer and throughout the year. I earned my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro (UNCG). As an undergraduate, I majored in Elementary and Special Education with a minor in Dance. Upon graduation, I taught high school for a few years, but knew my passion was working with college students. While pursuing my Master’s in Student Personnel Administration in Higher Education from UNCG, I worked in the Office of Leadership and Service-Learning. This experience gave me the opportunity to work with students across many settings in developing their leadership.
I am originally from North Carolina, so my dog Stella and I have not adventured too far from home! I enjoy crafting, traveling, and cooking. I craft mostly vinyl decals and paper decorations. My travels have taken me as far north as the Arctic Circle in Norway and as far south as the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa. I have recently discovered a love of cooking and I enjoy trying new recipes so I can put my own spin on them! We will be new to Clemson together as I will begin shortly before you all arrive. I can’t wait to be a part of your adventure at Clemson!
Hi y'all! My name is Wonjae Kim and I am the Graduate Assistant for Freshman Academic Programs. I am excited to meet everybody for an exciting summer!
I grew up in the suburbs of DC and have lived in Virginia my entire life. I graduated from Virginia Tech in 2016 with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and again in 2017 with a B.S. in Environmental Horticulture. While my curriculum was based in the sciences, I realized my passion in Student Affairs after working as an Orientation Leader at Virginia Tech, which is why I decided to pursue my Masters in Counselor Education in Student Affairs at Clemson!
My passions include cooking, hiking, and music. I was in the Marching Virginians, where I played on the Virginia Tech Drumline for 5 years. While I was there for the Hokie loss at the ACC Championship against Clemson, I am excited to start my journey as a Tiger and to meet and welcome everybody to Clemson!
Hey y'all! My name is Kelly and I will be the graduate intern student for Freshman Academic Programs this summer! I'm looking forward to meeting all of you.
I graduated from Clemson University in 2015 with my degree in Business Management and a minor in Financial Management. I'm currently continuing my education at Clemson in the graduate school to earn my Master in Counselor Education in Student Affairs. I've always had a soft spot for struggling students and a degree in student affairs was the perfect fit me!
I'm originally from Baltimore, Maryland. Naturally, I love crabs, Old Bay, Orioles baseball, and the beach! Since moving to Clemson I've found a love for hiking and college football. In my (albeit limited) spare time, I love to exercise, cook, spend time outside, and scrapbook.
Can't wait to welcome y'all to Tigertown this summer!
Hey everyone! My name is Megan and I’m a Junior management major with a minor in travel and tourism. I graduated from D.W. Daniel High School in 2015 where I was actively involved in cheerleading, Ambassadors club, my church, YoungLife, and the Clemson Central Rec Department. I enjoy watching the Bachelor, driving around just to listen to music, and spending afternoons at Clemson/Y beach! The Early Success Program truly changed my college experience by introducing me to lot of new friends and teaching me how to be a successful college student. This is my second summer working as a Head Peer Mentor and Intern for ESP and I am beyond excited to show y’all around Clemson this summer! Go Tigers!!
My name is Mark Estes. I am 19 years old and I went through the ESP program the summer of 2016. I am from Greenville, South Carolina, and I went to Saint Joseph’s Catholic
School. I love being active and I am happiest when I am playing baseball. I am apart of the Clemson Baseball team and my hobbies include exercising, playing baseball, playing pick up basketball, taking naps, and playing video games (primarily GameCube). I am a Graphic Communications major and I love playing on my computer and making cool pictures, designs, and videos. I am an easy going person and I am very energetic. I am excited to be a peer mentor because I feel like the peer mentors set the tone for the summer, and I am ready for an awesome summer. I love making new friends and I cannot wait to meet everyone.
Hey fellow ESP students!! My name is Justin and I am a rising sophomore business major. I am a former ESP student during the 2016 summer. I am from Greenville, South Carolina where I attended Greenville High School. I am really big into sports and love enjoying nice days on Clemson's campus. As a 2017 peer mentor, I am extremely excited to welcome you.
Hey guys! My name is Haley Melvin and I am a rising sophomore from Atlanta, Georgia. I am majoring in Packaging Science and I am part of the Alpha Chi Omega sorority at Clemson. In my free time I enjoy hanging with friends, watching Netflix, going to Clemson sporting events and eating as much of the free dining hall ice cream as I can (which we will have access to, I’m pumped!!). I was apart of the ESP program last year, which turned out to be one of the best summers of my life. I’m so thankful for the memories and friendships I made during it, and I can’t wait for you all to experience it, too! I look forward to meeting all of you! GO TIGERS!!!
Hey everyone! I hope you are super excited about this summer and everything we have planned! My name is Carmen McCarter and I’m a sophomore Marketing major with a minor in brand communications here at Clemson. I’m from Clover, South Carolina and I graduated from Clover High School in 2016. I was involved in volleyball, basketball, soccer, and National Honor Society. I love the beach, hiking, and going on snowboarding trips with my family. An interesting fact about me is that I can knit. The Early Success Program was one of the best experiences I have ever had and I encourage anyone who gets this chance to take control of the opportunities it brings. This is my first year working as a peer mentor, but I can’t wait to spend the summer with all of y’all in Clemson. Go Tigers!
Hey everybody! My name is Lucas Durham and I am a sophomore Computer Science major. I was born and raised in Cowpens, South Carolina. I graduated from Gettys D. Broome High School in 2015, where I was a member of the varsity tennis and golf team, and National Beta Club, while also being heavily involved in Central Baptist Church. I am a newfound extrovert, with the occasional introverted tendencies. Running is a passion of mine, but anything outdoors and competitive usually sparks my interest. I am currently an RA for the Bridge to Clemson Program and, because of that, student affairs became my passion. I love interacting with residents on a personal basis, and getting to know them personally through common interests. This will be my first year being a part of the Early Success Program as the Community Assistant, and I am looking forward to getting to know all of the students. I cannot wait to get this summer started!
