Services: What We Do
The Office of Access and Equity coordinates development of the various plans, programs, and procedures relating to equality of opportunity in employment, admission, advancement, retention, and treatment. Additionally, the office monitors the University's compliance with all relevant federal, state and university statues and policies. Our responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
- Assist in recruiting racial/ethnic minority faculty, staff, and students;
- Develop programs such as conferences and workshops to promote cultural sensitivity and awareness;
- Compile the University's statistical and narrative reports on the workforce composition by race and sex for federal and state agencies;
- Oversee compliance of the Americans with Disabilities Act;
- Monitor the University's recruitment and selection procedures for compliance to access and equity objectives;
- Develop the University's yearly Affirmative Action Plan;
- Serve as liaison between the University and South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus;
- Implement educational/training programs about sexual harassment and the Americans with Disabilities Acts; and
- Mediate pre-grievances and investigate allegations of discrimination by faculty, staff and students.
