Who We Are

The Clemson Alumni Council exists to facilitate the partnership between the University and the Clemson Family. The diverse group of Tigers was formed to ensure that the opinions and perspectives of alumni across the broad spectrum of our University can be voiced and heard. Clemson University needs the input, participation and support of its outstanding alumni as it aspires to do an even greater job of reaching its goals, overcoming any obstacles, highlighting the many achievements and fulfilling its mission.

How We Serve

  • We provide a forum for relationship-building and networking among Clemson's alumni volunteer leaders.
  • We create educational opportunities for organized alumni leadership about key University issues and initiatives.
  • We act as a sounding board and provide feedback for University leadership on current or proposed programs and services for the benefit of alumni.
  • We are the platform for the sharing of ideas among Clemson's various alumni groups.
  • We allow for a broader base of alumni to participate significantly in the affairs of their Alumni Association.
  • We create one more opportunity for fun and fellowship with alumni from across the country and globe.
  • We serve as advocates to engage, inform and encourage other alumni to communicate with members of the S.C. General Assembly, the U.S. Congress and other elected officials regarding issues of importance to Clemson and higher education.
Members of the Clemson Alumni Council represent a larger Clemson Alumni Family.
  • Clemson Club and Special-Interest Group presidents
  • Former Alumni Association presidents
  • Members of the Alumni Association Board of Directors
  • Undergraduate and graduate student body presidents
  • University officials
  • A group of alumni appointed by the Alumni Association Board president for a one-year term
  • Alumni representatives from each graduating class, academic college, the Board of Visitors, Foundation Board and Board of Trustees

This important group meets in Clemson twice a year to network, to share ideas and to hear updates from the Alumni Association staff and board. Members also stay involved throughout the year by lending their expertise to one of six committee areas. From marketing to special events planning, there is a place for each member to leave his or her mark and make a difference for his or her alma mater.

The Clemson Alumni Council ties Tigers to their University and the University to its Tigers.

Committees

Engagement

Provides guidance and oversight to the organized alumni groups that make up the Alumni Association. This committee strives to increase the overall involvement and output levels of our Clemson Clubs and special-interest groups, and to identify ways that Clemson can best support these willing ambassadors and vice-versa. Objectives include creating consistent and updated resource manuals for use of alumni group leaders, planning educational opportunities for alumni volunteers away from Clemson’s campus, establishing a network that helps facilitate communication among peer alumni leaders, ensuring the appropriate promotion of “organized” alumni activities across the globe throughout the course of a year, achieving alumni participation goals within geographical areas, recognizing alumni groups for outstanding contributions to Clemson and community, and approving requests for new alumni groups.

Chair: Heather Mitsopoulos

Marketing/Communications

Works to ensure that the Alumni Association fully leverages the communications channels available to it, to include the CommitteesClemson World magazine, Alumni website, electronic newsletters, print materials, and local media. This committee aims to establish a first-class web presence for Clemson’s alumni, and to have informative and professional marketing materials for each key initiative and program of the Alumni Association. Objectives include increasing public awareness of both “centrally-planned” and volunteer-driven alumni gatherings and activities, conducting surveys to obtain alumni feedback on a variety of topics, evaluating the “Alumni Association” section of the Clemson World magazine, and regularly reviewing the content and layout of our Alumni website to ensure a quality product.

Chair: Heather Jones

Business Development

Seeks opportunities to provide valuable services/resources to Clemson’s alumni, while also providing (when possible and appropriate) the Alumni Association with financial resources to support future operational needs and University initiatives. In an environment where sponsorship and partnership revenue are more and more important to the operational needs of the Association, this committee evaluates and considers opportunities to associate with a variety of vendors who wish to market products to our fellow alumni. Objectives include building a portfolio of “desirable things to offer” our alumni, maintaining our current level of revenue from various partnerships or sponsorships, and developing a plan to secure additional future revenue.
