Clemson University is pleased to welcome an increasing number of international faculty, staff and students on campus. The internationalization of Clemson University means increased numbers of foreign nationals seeking employment. International Services (IS) assists Clemson's research and education community by coordinating and submitting nonimmigrant worker's visa petitions, e.g. H-1B and permanent residency petitions.
IS provides critical support to Clemson University units in their hiring of, and subsequent maintenance of employment eligibility for, international faculty and staff who otherwise have no authorization to work at Clemson. Our focus is on preparing and filing federally-required documents with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) and with the US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) on behalf of hiring faculty or staff and maintaining required documentation in the event of audit by either of these federal agencies. In addition, we counsel and advise foreign national employees of Clemson regarding federal regulations and procedures related to their US immigration status. (Please visit LPR policy page for Clemson University sponsorship information) We also assist the international employee's family to obtain and maintain legal immigration status in the US.
The processing is often a lengthy and complex one. IS suggests hiring units to inform the Director of International Services at the earliest stage of hiring to provide immediate assistance, to ensure the employment will commerce timely, and to maximize all the eligible immigration benefits under federal law.
