At the intersection of science and imagination, Clemson is helping to change the way people communicate through technology.

Research and development initiatives in wireless communications, high-performance computer architecture, digital media, special effects and interface design bring together some of the nation’s most talented faculty members and students. Clemson’s Holcombe Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Michael Pursley, for instance, is one of the world’s 10 most frequently cited authors in the field of wireless communication networks.

Varun Grover, the William S. Lee Distinguished Professor of Information Systems, has been ranked among the top five in research productivity by leading journals in the field of information systems.

Clemson grads have used their digital production skills on special effects for movies such as The Chronicles of Narnia, Scooby Doo 2, Elektra, The Ring 2, Garfield, Robots and Ice Age.

Digital technology is playing an increasingly important role in national defense, homeland security and health care, in addition to its applications in the worlds of business, manufacturing, education and entertainment. In all of these endeavors, Clemson innovators are at the cutting edge.

This expertise leads to valuable collaborations with researchers in other Clemson emphasis areas. A key facet of the university’s automotive and transportation technology research, for example, is the Clemson University Computational Center for Mobility Systems, which offers unique simulation capabilities for testing vehicle designs.
