WHEREAS, Clemson University and the City of Clemson desire to create a visually appealing environment; therefore contributing to the quality of life in their communities; and
WHEREAS, waste
reduction and litter prevention is vitally important to the quality of
life at Clemson University and the City of Clemson; and
WHEREAS, the students, faculty, staff, the Clemson University Administration, Clemson Mayor and City Council have an interest in encouraging every student, employee, resident and visitor to protect and preserve the beauty and cleanliness of the campus and the community; and
WHEREAS, the Administrative Council, in cooperation with the Clemson University Environmental Committee, has a strong interest in reducing and eventually eliminating litter; and
WHEREAS, PalmettoPride, a state nonprofit organization committed to the eradication of litter and the promotion of beautification of South Carolina, is addressing the litter problem in South Carolina; and
WHEREAS, Clemson University and the City of Clemson will launch the Solid Green: Keep Clemson Clean program to educate and foster awareness of litter prevention on campus and in the community; and
WHEREAS, Clemson’s Solid Green program will be the first anti-litter program of its kind at a college or university in South Carolina; and
WHEREAS, all interested students, faculty, staff, residents and community members are encouraged to support the Solid Green: Keep Clemson Clean campaign at Clemson University and the City of Clemson, which is launched August 21, 2006;
NOW, THEREFORE, WE, James F. Barker, President of Clemson
University, and Larry W. Abernathy, Mayor of the City of Clemson, do hereby
proclaim on this date of August 21, 2006 that Clemson University and the
City of Clemson will be a litter-free campus and community.
