A Message from the Associate Vice President for Student Affairs and Dean of Students to Parents of Incoming Clemson Students
Congratulations! The time you’ve waited for is finally here. Your son or daughter has selected one of the nation’s top universities, and your whole family is feeling a mixture of anticipation, excitement and pride. First-year students face new challenges as they join the Clemson Family. Some of these challenges are obvious while others are not. This is the first time away from home for many students, and the values you instilled will guide your son or daughter in the choices he or she makes.
We understand that safety and academic success are the two major concerns of every parent who sends a child to college. On this site, you’ll find some important information to discuss with your student regarding alcohol and other drug use as well as resources available. Finally, we’ve offered some tips on communicating with your student about these issues.
The entire Clemson Family seeks to ensure that students are aware of the fact that high-risk drinking can hinder safety and academic performance. We invite you to join us in the conversation to educate students about the dangers of high-risk drinking behaviors and how they can make choices to reduce their risk of unwanted consequences.
Congratulations, again, on becoming the proud parent of a Clemson student. We look forward to working with you!
