Freshman Applicants Procedures

Apply to ClemsonYou should apply as a freshman candidate if you are currently enrolled in high school or have not enrolled or earned credit at another college or university following high school graduation.

Admission is closed when all class space has been committed. We encourage applicants to submit materials early in the fall of their senior year. In mid-February, decisions are mailed to students who applied before Dec. 1; students who applied after Dec. 1 will receive their decision at this time or shortly thereafter. After you submit your application, you will be mailed a confirmation postcard. If you have questions about the application process, you can contact the Office of Admissions at (864) 656-2287. Please note that admission decisions will not be given over the phone.

Interviews are not required for admission, but you can learn more about the Clemson experience by visiting with an admissions staff member. Appointments are not required, but you can call the office at (864) 656-2287 to schedule one if you would like.

Freshmen Admission Requirements

For freshman applicants, the following factors are considered:

  • Class standing
  • Standardized test scores (SAT or ACT)
  • High school curriculum
  • Grades
  • Choice of major

When applying, freshman applicants should:

  • Fill out the online application
  • Send an official high school transcript with senior year courses listed.
  • Request official SAT or ACT scores to be sent directly from the test agency. Students applying for freshman admission must take either the SAT with writing section or the ACT test with the optional writing section.

  • English — 4 credits
  • Mathematics — 3 credits
  • Laboratory Science — 3 credits
  • Foreign Language — 3 credits
  • Social Sciences — 3 credits
  • Other — 2 credits
  • Physical Education/ROTC — 1 credit
  • Fine Arts – 1 credit

Other application considerations:

  • An audition is required for students interested in pursuing music or theater concentrations. For more information, visit the Performing Arts department Web site
  • Applications for Professional Golf Management must demonstrate evidence of a playing proficiency reflected in a handicap of eight or better. Each student's handicap must be verified by a member of the PGA or by a high school golf coach. For more information, visit the Professional Golf Management Web site.
