International Baccalaureate Credits

Clemson University recognizes the academic challenge inherent in the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme and awards credit for IB Higher Level scores in the following subjects. See IB Credit chart.

Biology
A score of 4, 5, 6 or 7 will earn credit for BIOL 103/105 and BIOL 104/106.

Business and Management
A score of 4, 5, 6 or 7 on the HL Business and Management examination will earn credit for MGT 201.

Chemistry
In majors requiring organic chemistry, credit for CH 101 will be given for a score of 4, 5, 6 or 7. In majors that do not require organic chemistry, credit for CH 101 will be given for a score of 4 or 5, and CH 101 and CH 102 will be given for a score of 6 or 7.

Computer Science
A score of 4 on the HL Computer Science examination will earn credit for CP SC 111. A score of 5 and 6 on the HL Computer Science examination will earn credit for CP SC 101. A score of 7 will receive credit for CP SC 101 and CP SC 102.

Design Technology
A score of 4, 5, 6 or 7 will earn elective credit.

Economics
A score of 4, 5, 6 or 7 will earn credit for ECON 211 and 212.

English (Language A1)
A score of 4 will earn credit for ENGL 101. A score of 5 or 6 will earn credit for ENGL 101 and 212.  A score of 7 will earn credit for ENGL 101, 103 and 212.

Environmental Systems and Societies
A score of 4, 5, 6 or 7 will earn credit for EN SP 200.

Film
A score of 4, 5, 6 or 7 will earn elective credit.

Foreign Languages (Second Language)
A score of 4 will earn credit for ARAB 101, CHIN 101, FR 101, GER 101, ITAL 101, JAPN 101, LATIN 101, PORT 101, RUSS 101, or SPAN 101 (dependent upon HL language examination). A score of 5, 6 or 7 will receive credit for ARAB 101 and ARAB 102, CHIN 101 and 102, FR 101 and 102, GER 101 and 102,  ITAL 101 and 102, JAPN 101 and 102, LATIN 101 and 102, PORT 101 and 102, RUSS 101 and 102 or SPAN 101 and 102 (dependent upon HL language examination).

Geography
A score of 4, 5, 6 or 7 will receive credit for GEOG 101.

History
A score of 4, 5, 6, or 7 on the HL History-Africa, The Americas, Europe and the Islamic World, and Europe and the Middle East examinations will earn elective credit. A score of 4, 5, 6, 7 on the HL History-Asia and Oceania examination will earn credit for HIST 193.

Information Technology in a Global Society
A score of 4, 5, 6 or 7 will earn credit for STS 120.

Islamic History
A score of 4, 5, 6 or 7 will earn elective credit.

Mathematics
For students taking the calculus sequence (MTHSC 106 and 108), a score of 4 or 5 on the HL Mathematics examination earns placement in MTHSC 108. Upon completion of MTHSC 108 with a grade of C or better, credit will be given for MTHSC 106. For students taking the calculus sequence (MTHSC 102 and 207), a score of 4 or 5 on the HL Mathematics examination earns placement in MTHSC 207. Upon completion of MTHSC 207 with a grade of C or better, credit will be given for MTHSC 102. A score of 6 or 7 on the HL Mathematics examination earns credit for either MTHSC 102 or 106, but not both. Elective credit is awarded for a score of 4 or 5 on the Mathematics IB exam if the student does not enroll in MTHSC 108 or 207 or does not pass the sequential class (MTHSC 108 or 207) with a C or higher.

Music
A score of 4, 5, 6 or 7 will be given elective credit. Exact credit and courses will be determined on an individual basis.

Philosophy
A score of 4, 5, 6 or 7 will earn credit for PHIL 101.

Physics
A score of 4 on the HL Physics examination will earn credit for PHYS 207/209. A score of 5, 6, or 7 on the HL Physics examination will receive credit for PHYS 207/209 and PHYS 208/210.

Psychology
A score of 4, 5, 6 or 7 will earn credit for PSYCH 201.

Social and Cultural Anthropology
A score of 4, 5, 6 or 7 will earn elective credit.

Theatre Arts
A score of 4, 5, 6 or 7 will be given elective credit. Exact credit and courses will be determined on an individual basis.

Visual Arts
A score of 4, 5, 6 or 7 on the HL Visual Arts examination will earn credit for ART 103.
