In honor of Clemson’s will and in appreciation of alumni and friends who make provisions in their own wills to support the University, the Clemson University Foundation has formed the Clemson Legacy Society.
The Clemson Legacy Society is an honor society created especially to recognize individuals who have included Clemson University in their Last Will and Testaments or as a beneficiary of a trust, retirement account or life insurance policy. To be inducted into this prestigious circle, your completed Statement of Future Gifts is all that is necessary. In appreciation of your commitment, as a member of the Clemson Legacy Society, you will receive a beautiful print of excerpts from Mr. Clemson’s will, done in calligraphy and sealed with the intaglio from his signet ring at the next Clemson University Major Gifts Clubs Donor Recognition and Society Induction Ceremony. Please be assured that no individual bequest amounts are ever released publicly and we would honor all requests for anonymity, if so desired.
Because Clemson Legacy Society members have followed so closely in the footsteps of our founder, we were inspired to initiate a new tradition to coincide with the 120th anniversary of the signing of his will on November 6, 1886. The Clemson Legacy Registry, unveiled on November 10, 2006, is a handsome, archival, leather-bound ledger that will serve as a record to be treasured and celebrated for all time. Only members of the Clemson Legacy are invited to add their signatures in the Legacy Registry, symbolizing with the stroke of a pen the power of philanthropy and the perpetuation of Thomas Green Clemson’s legacy.
Members are invited to sign the Legacy Registry in the parlor of Fort Hill, by personal appointment, in the very room where Thomas Clemson and Anna Calhoun were married on November 13, 1838. In addition, throughout the year we will offer specific dates and times for members to join us at this historic place for a ceremonial event to add their names to the Legacy Registry. The Clemson Legacy Registry will be permanently housed at Fort Hill for display and for future members to add their signatures to this wonderful and historically significant ledger.
