The Clemson Alumni Association invites you to participate in the 1st annual Alumni Challenge Tournament to be held Friday, September 10th at The Walker Course in Clemson. Compete for bragging rights to be the best Alumni golf foursome and the chance to represent your alma mater on the national stage. The winning team of the Clemson Challenge will enjoy 3 days/2 nights at Pinehurst Resort and join 120 other 4-person college alumni teams (one from each Conference University) for a 36-hole best ball competition at Pinehurst Courses Nos. 2 & 4. Athletic Departments Take Top Honors

State Appropriation Slashed by $75 million since 2008
The cost to attend Clemson University this fall will increase an average of 6 percent for South Carolina undergraduate students, based on new tuition fees. Non-state residents will see the average cost of attendance increase by about 7 percent. Clemson's permanent base state appropriation for both academics and public service activities has been slashed by approximately $75 million since June 2008. State support now accounts for about 12 percent of total revenues. read more >

International Expert Joins Economic Development Team
International trade and economic development leader, Peter D. Beattie, 57, Australian premier of the state of Queensland from 1998 to 2007, will join Clemson University in August as an adviser and guest lecturer on global economic development strategies. Beattie is credited with transforming Queensland into the "Smart State" by restructuring the education system and developing new industries based on research in biotechnology, information technology and alternative energy. read more >

Przirembel Named Honorary Alumnus
Chris Przirembel, the retiring vice president for research and economic development, was honored by the University and the Alumni Association at a surprise reception on June 29. An endowment was created in his name to support graduate students pursuing master's and Ph.D. degrees from Clemson and Przirembel was also named an honorary alumnus. read more >

Humble Hero Honored
Sixty-five years later, France said thank you to Lowcountry resident Mason "Mickey" Dorsey. The former GI, now 85 but still spry and fit enough to wear his woolen uniform, was awarded the Legion of Honor in a small ceremony last week marking the contribution he made freeing France during World War II. read more >

Volunteer for Baton Rouge School Rebuild July 12-18
Clemson graduate Joe Semsar, '09, serves as a Teach for America corps member at Lanier Elementary School, an under-privileged, under-resourced school in the heart of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. On July 12-18, NBC's "School Pride," a spin-off of ABC's "Extreme Home Makeover," will lend a hand to rebuild and repair this elementary school. Joe needs to recruit 1200 volunteers to be a part of this experience and we're counting on fellow Tigers to lend a paw. read more >
