NASCAR Will Help Kids Understand Physics

Dot Moss, director of Clemson's "Math Out of the Box" program for schools, developed an education program for teachers through Clemson University. It was a 4-day program for middle school teachers which taught science through studying the laws of motion in NASCAR. Moss views NASCAR as a creative way to teach math and science to younger people. Tiger Band That Shakes the Nation

The Tiger Band received national recognition for the second time by The College Band Directors National Association. The band was chosen for their 2010 halftime program titled "The Spirit of God and Man". Clemson's marching band was one of five universities chosen to present their show at a national conference. Clemson is launching a new Canada Center. The US ambassador for Canada, Gary Doer, recently visited Clemson to discuss the new partnership of collaboration between Clemson and Canada which will increase academic and research connections for both entities.

Letters Reveal Clemson History

Clemson received 3 handwritten letters from George Washington Carver to Clemson Cadet Kelly E. Traynham. The letters were a gift from Traynham's widow, Lib, who kept them in great condition. The history and significance in the letters in relation to Clemson is incredible.

Scientists across the state of South Carolina are collaborating to create a new fuel to replace gas in cars and smaller trucks. This project includes scientists from all research universities in South Carolina and is an interesting leverage of the expertise and knowledge within our universities. Read More >

Innovation from Class to Reality

A professor's project for students to think outside of the box leads a student to implement his idea in the work environment. The project, Innovation at Work, inspired student, David Pruitt, to research what can be done with cardboard boxes that enter a distribution center. He estimates that reusing these materials could save up to $3.4 million a year. Read more >

Seasons by the Lake Reopens

Lakeside dining resumed March 10th following nearly three months of remodeling at Seasons by the Lake Restaurant at the Madren Conference Center and Inn. The restaurant has been renovated and has a new floor plan and furnishings, along with lake view dining with seating for more than 100, a private dining room, a refurbished Joe's Place bar and a greatly expanded lakeside terrace. "We are excited to open the new Seasons by the Lake Restaurant and Joe's Place," said Jeff Martin, director of the Madren Conference Center and Inn. "They serve as a centerpiece for business meetings and entertaining for the university and the community." Read more >

Clemson Clubs Unite for Away Game

The South Florida and Treasure Coast Clemson clubs joined forces and 65 tiger fans attend the Clemson versus Miami basketball game at Miami. Their united support created a Clemson atmosphere away from LittleJohn Coliseum. Learn More About Clemson Clubs >

Alumnus Donation Encourages Student Success

Alumnus, Slade Exley, is giving $100,000 to the university for student fellowships. Exley still remembers all the awards he received during his undergraduate studies at Clemson, and he hopes that these fellowships will motivate current students to be as successful as he is. The fellowships will be awarded to students pursuing graduate degrees in civil engineering. Read more >

Green Thumb Leads to 40 Years of Business

Two brothers, Ted and Gerald Stephen, have green thumbs when it comes to their nursery, Nurseries Caroliniana, in North Augusta. They have successfully grown and sold flowers for almost 40 years.

Alumna Publishes Book

Joyce Baugh, Alumna 1981, recently published her book "The Detroit School Busing Case" through the University Press of Kansas. The book analyzes the first major case of desegregation that did not develop in the south through discussing the Supreme Court's landmark decision in Milliken v. Bradley (1974). Read more >

Martin Recognized as Developing Leader

Alumna, Jessica Barron Martin attributes her recent success to her Clemson MRED degree. The past-president of the Orlando Clemson Club was given early acceptance into Wells Fargo's top training program in October and recently learned she was named the "Developing Leader of the Year" for NAIOP - Central Florida. This award is given to the top 35 and under member of the Developing Leaders group as decided by the president of the chapter. NAIOP is the most active group out of ICSC and ULI in Central Florida.

Dr. Bill Taylor, a 1977 Clemson graduate, has dedicated a large portion of the past 30 years of his life to treating this disease in other countries. Clemson University will host the first three day Southern Ground Festival headlining the Zac Brown Band April 8th-10th. Coach Swinney and Coach Brownell want to see you at the 2011 Prowl and Growl events! Check out their invitation video and make plans now to attend a Prowl and Growl stop in your area. In South Carolina, the tour will visit Charleston, Greenville, Myrtle Beach, Florence, Rock Hill, Lexington and Aiken. In North Carolina, Tigers will stop in Charlotte and Raleigh. The Clemson Women's Alumni Council is excited to announce the 13th annual Bring Your Daughter to Clemson Weekend held on campus on Friday, May 20th - Sunday, May 22nd, 2011.
