Trustees Approve 2011-2012 Budget

Clemson University's trustees Friday approved the school's fiscal year 2011-2012 budget at their summer quarterly meeting in Charleston. The $815 million annual budget includes an approximate 2.2 percent overall increase in total revenues and expenditures. Former South Carolina legislator and U.S. Ambassador to Canada David H. Wilkins was unanimously reelected chairman of the board of trustees for a two-year term. He has served on the board since 2007.

Clemson Drives Towards New Simulation Technology

Clemson University researchers, working with simulation technology company DriveSafety, have developed a new driving simulator designed for patient rehabilitation that now is being used at 11 Army, Navy and Veterans Affairs facilities. These driving simulators provide patients with engaging treatment sessions in a safe environment, including practicing realistic driving skills.

Real Estate Foundation Announces New Members

The Clemson University Real Estate Foundation board of directors appointed Thomas B. McTeer Jr. of Columbia to a four-year term. The university board of trustees also reappointed two members to the Real Estate Foundation board: William L. "Roy" Abercrombie Jr. of Greenville and Neil C. Robinson Jr. of Mount Pleasant each will serve four-year terms. The Clemson University Foundation reappointed G. Graham "Goz" Segars Jr. of Hartsville to serve a one-year term on the Real Estate Foundation board.

Piekutowski to Lead Human Resources Division

Michelle Piekutowski of Clemson has been named Interim Chief Human Resources Officer at Clemson University for a two-year term, effective immediately. Piekutowski will be responsible for leadership and management of the comprehensive Human Resources Division.

Women's Golf Added as Varsity Sport

Clemson Athletic Director Terry Don Phillips announced Monday that the school will add women's golf as a varsity sport beginning with the 2013-14 academic year. Current Head Men's Golf Coach Larry Penley will serve as Director of Golf for the department.

The Clemson Alumni Association recognizes up to five alumni annually for outstanding service to Clemson University, success in their professions or personal callings, and commitment to the communities to which they belong. CU-ICAR to Host Electric Vehicle Conference

One of the world's foremost professional associations will meet in South Carolina next year when the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) holds a prestigious first-of-a-kind conference in the Upstate. IEEE chose Greenville over Austin, Texas, Detroit, San Francisco and Washington for its 2012 International Electric Vehicle Conference. From March 4-8, 2012, more than 1,000 people are expected to attend the major automotive event, and Clemson University will play a central role hosting the conference and supporting the technical programs.
