New Clemson Ring Provider
Balfour was selected following a competitive bid process to determine who would produce the rings and partner with the Clemson Alumni Association. "We look forward to collaborating with the team at Balfour to continue the rich history of the Clemson Ring while having the opportunity for our Alumni Association to have ownership and more protection of this important university symbol," said Wil Brasington, senior director of alumni relations. The Clemson Ring, which has an official design and is recognized around the world by Clemson alumni, will be made available exclusively by the Clemson Alumni Association.

2012 Honors Application Now Open
If you know any outstanding high school seniors considering Clemson, please encourage them to apply for membership in the Calhoun Honors College. For priority notification by February 15 as well as consideration for the National Scholars Program, applicants MUST submit their Honors application online by December 1, and all supporting documents must be submitted by December 15. Please note that all applicants to the Honors College must FIRST submit the Undergraduate Admissions application.

Welcoming Back with a Bang
Clemson University kicked off the 2011-12 school year with the 23rd annual Welcome Back Festival from 5:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22. The festival is sponsored by the Clemson Student Alumni Council. The Welcome Back Festival encompasses all of downtown Clemson in order to provide delicious tastings from the restaurants and prizes courtesy of the local Clemson businesses. Almost $13, 000 was raised for the Student Alumni Council Scholarship Fund.

Strong Support Despite Tough Times
As a strong testament to the unwavering support from Tigers everywhere, gifts to Clemson University during the 2010-11 fiscal year totaled $89.1 million. Of that, $54.6 million was from private gifts and pledges of cash, gifts-in-kind or real estate; $16 million from planned gifts; and $18.5 million in pledges and donations to the IPTAY annual fund.

Research Reels in Something Fishy
Clemson University population biologist Peter Marko and his colleagues have found that not all certified Chilean sea bass are what they are claimed to be. The research by Marko, Holly Nance and Kimberly Guynn is reported in the Aug. 23 edition of Current Biology and reveals that some fish sold in stores are not from the fishing grounds certified as sustainable, and some are not Chilean sea bass at all.

Savannah Club Back in the Ballgame
The Savannah Clemson Club has reorganized, and recently had their first get-together at the Savannah Sand Gnats baseball game on August 14. The Clemson Alums were there to watch the Gnats play Kyle Parker and the Asheville Tourists. Parker stayed after the game to meet the club. The Tourists beat the Gnats 5-4 thanks to a sacrifice fly hit by Kyle Parker in the fifth inning. The game was a hit for the Clemson fans!

CAFLS Tailgate: A Tasty Gathering
Nothing's finer that South Carolina-grown agricultural products, and at this year's CAFLS Tailgate there will be a variety of vendors on had to add extra flavor to the event. The College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Science Alumni Board invites all CAFLS alumni, current students, fellow Tigers and friends of CAFLS to the 2011 CAFLS Tailgate on Saturday, October 8 at Fike Recreation Center. The event is scheduled to begin 3 hours before kick-off of the Boston College Football game. This year's Tailgate will take place Homecoming Weekend and will feature a Silent Auction, the introduction of the CAFLS Tailgate "Taste of South Carolina", recognition of the winners of the SC Farm Bureau Collegiate Discussion Meet and the Forestry and Natural Resources Annual Alumni Meeting.
