Orange Bowl Bound!

Orange Bowl Bound!

Clemson will face West Virginia in the Discover Orange Bowl on Wednesday, January 4 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami Gardens, FL. It will be Clemson's first trip to the Orange Bowl since the 1981 season when the Tigers defeated Nebraska, 22-15, to win the National Championship. The game will be televised by ESPN and start at 8 PM. Book your travel and order your official gear now!

Clemson Ranked 8th in Graduating African American Engineers

Clemson University ranks eighth among the nation's universities in graduating African-American students in engineering, according to a survey by the magazine Diverse: Issues In Higher Education. Half of the top-10 institutions in the engineering rankings are historically black colleges and universities. North Carolina A&T State University in Greensboro led the list. Among non-historically black institutions, Clemson ranked between the University of Florida (No. 7) and the University of Michigan (No. 10).

Alums Create Clean Water for Nicaraguans

Michael Cain ‘91 and Chris Carlsten ‘96 are two Clemson graduates who know that being an engineer is about more than just working hours and getting paid. The two are members of the Engineers Without Borders (EWB) professional chapter in Charleston, SC. Recently, they began work in Nicaragua to implement a clean water source for the community, and more specifically a local clinic, the Roberto Clemente Health Clinic in Limon.

Book Delves into History of the Botanical Gardens

In his book, The Caboose, the Gardens, and the Clemson College Class of ’39, history professor emeritus Don McKale traces the beginnings of the S.C. Botanical Garden at Clemson University, the origin of its famous red Caboose, and the driving forces behind the garden’s establishment—Tee Senn and the Class of ’39. McKale is the Class of ’41 Memorial Professor and a Honorary Class of ’39er. His book includes historical and current photos of the Class of ’39 Caboose. All proceeds go to the S.C. Col. Stuckey Recognized by Alumni Association

Colonel Stuckey is one of 25 classmates still living from class of ’36. Wil Brasington, senior director of alumni relations, was on hand to present Col. Stuckey with a special certificate and recognition from the Clemson Alumni Association to celebrate and commemorate Stuckey’s 75th graduation anniversary at his home in Hickory, NC.

Ethics Bowl Team Wins Regional

Clemson University’s Intercollegiate Ethics Bowl team took first place in the fifth annual Mid-Atlantic Regional Ethics Bowl championship. Clemson is one of four teams from the Mid-Atlantic Region advancing to the national championship in Cincinnati next March.

Students Develop Arm Stabilizer

Students from multiple disciplines are working together to make pediatric medical care a little easier for children and nurses. A Creative Inquiry team of students is working on a way to immobilize children's arms when nurses are drawing blood or inserting IVs. Last year, The Children’s Hospital of the Greenville Hospital System expressed a need and an interest in a pediatric arm stabilizer. Now when children are brought to the treatment room to get IVs or have blood work done, they have to lie down and be restrained.

Taking Charge Rally To Address Alcohol Culture

All students, faculty, staff, community members and alumni are invited to attend the CU Taking Charge Rally from 2- 3 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 8, in the Outdoor Theater. The event is being planned by a Creative Inquiry team of seven students working together to address the severity of alcohol consumption at Clemson. They hope the rally will serve as a way to remember students who have passed away and to communicate that the drinking culture in the Clemson community is unacceptable.

IPTAY Pledges $1.25 Million

Since 1934, IPTAY has been a source of strong, consistent support for the athletic program, student athletes and the general improvement of the university. The organization also supports non-athletes through the IPTAY Academic Scholarship Endowment. To further realize its goal of creating leaders for tomorrow, IPTAY has pledged $1.25 million for need-based scholarships to Clemson University as a part of The Will to Lead capital campaign.
