Clemson Ranked Among Best Values in Public Colleges by Kiplinger

Kiplinger magazine has rated Clemson University among the best values in public higher education in its ranking of the "100 Best Values in Public Colleges" released Tuesday. Clemson's ranking — 34th for in-state students and 36th for out-of-state students — was based on a variety of factors that matched quality of education with cost. The university moved up from a ranking of 41st and 46th, respectively, last year.

Two of Upstate South Carolina’s leaders in research and technology incubation have signed a memorandum of understanding that will help drive economic growth in Anderson County. Clemson University and Innovate Anderson, a public-private partnership with the mission of growing Anderson County’s economy, will foster economic development by working jointly to attract high-technology, knowledge-based research-and-development organizations to the region. Innovate Anderson and Clemson will coordinate economic development and marketing activities, and activities related to real estate and property management at the site.

Clemson University Graduates Find Jobs Fast

Clemson University graduates are finding jobs at nearly twice the national average and the results of a recent survey may go a long way toward explaining why. The 2011 National Survey of Student Engagement (NSSE) found that two-thirds of Clemson seniors had significant hands-on experience as part of their college educations.

Bad News for Strawberries

A Clemson University plant disease researcher has disturbing news for Southeastern strawberry growers. Research data show that the fungus causing gray mold in strawberries has become completely resistant to some important pesticides that producers have been relying on for years. “If the wrong products are used during weather conditions suitable for gray mold disease we will experience the ‘perfect storm,’” said Guido Schnabel, research and Extension plant pathologist at Clemson University.

Marketing Students Take First Place in National Competition

Four Clemson University students took first place in a national marketing competition. The Creative Inquiry team topped students from the University of Pennsylvania and the University of Texas/Arlington to win the Chevrolet Sonic Marketing Challenge in Detroit. Their entry, titled “Chevrolet Sonic: Kick Normal to the Curb,” was built around a program to build awareness of the vehicle among Clemson University students.

Professor Emerita of Spanish Wins National Award

Paula Rae Heusinkveld, professor emerita of Spanish at Clemson University, was awarded the Nelson Brooks Award for Excellence in the Teaching of Culture in November by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). Heusinkveld accepted the award at ACTFL's annual conference in Denver. Heusinkveld taught Spanish at Clemson for 29 years and was director of Clemson’s bachelor of arts program in Language and International Trade from 2003 until her retirement last June.

Wendy’s Recruiting Wrap-Up with Dabo Swinney

The Fort Hill Clemson Club invites Tiger fans to attend the 6th Annual Wendy’s Recruiting Wrap Up with Dabo Swinney on Wednesday, February 1st at Jervey Gym in Clemson. Coach Swinney will discuss each member of the Tigers' 2012 recruiting class. The program will also include highlight videos of each signee, a live auction and door prizes. Please purchase tickets before Friday, January 27th. Tickets will not be for sale at the door. All proceeds from the event go directly to academic scholarships for local high school students attending Clemson University.
