Campus Tree Removal Update

Campus Tree Removal Update

University facilities landscape services will begin work to remove three trees near Brackett Hall as the area is renovated for the North Garden project. The project is a renovation of the space bounded by Bracket Hall, the Carillon Garden and Calhoun Drive; it is funded through private donations from the Class of 1960 and the student body of 2010 and 2011. Due to poor health, as determined by the university arborist, one 6-inch caliper oak tree and one 4-inch caliper Japanese maple will be removed during the project. A second Japanese maple will be relocated to another location on campus. Tree removal will start at the end of June or early July. As the site is redesigned and landscaped, 24 new trees will be planted in the area. These trees will be planted late in the fall semester to maximize survival rate. It is university practice to plant two trees for every tree removed on campus.

Safe Summer Driving Tips

Safe Summer Driving Tips

Clemson Alumni Association and sponsor, Nationwide Insurance wish you a safe and happy summer. Here are a few safe driving reminders: Maintain your ride. Ensure your tires are inflated to the pressure (PSI) noted in your car owner’s manual. Put down the cell phone. Keep distractions to a minimum when driving. And don’t even think about texting or glancing at smartphone apps. Use your seatbelt. In 2009, only 84% of the population wore seatbelts, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Factor in road conditions. Proceed cautiously after a rainstorm, in loose gravel and in the heat of summer, when oils from the blacktop may create a hazardous driving surface. Exercise caution. Stay at least two seconds behind the car in front of you so you can stop safely.

And they’re not alone — nearly 7,000 students drop out across the country every day. Statistics that people across the country work day in and day out to curb, decrease and eradicate.
