Convocation Kicks off 50th Anniversary of Integration

Clemson University’s Victor Hurst Convocation marked the beginning of the 2012-13 academic year, as well as the start of the university’s celebration of the 50th anniversary of its integration. Former Charlotte mayor Harvey Gantt, the first African-American student to attend Clemson, delivered a special address to kick off a series of events planned throughout the year.

Gymsitters Child Care Service is Back

Gymsitters Child Care Service is Back

The Gymsitters child care service is back this Fall. This is a service that was started approx. 9 years ago to provide child care during select home football games that have kickoff at 3pm or earlier for children ages 3-10. This year’s dates are: Sept. 8, Sept 15, and Nov. 10 (pending kickoff time TBA). The cost is $50/child and includes a nutritious snack, arts and crafts item to take home, t-shirt, time with certified staff.

Clemson welcomed its largest-ever freshman class last week that numbers more than 3,450 students. Clemson received a record number of applications this year - 18,500 - and saw a 4 percent increase in yield, the percentage of accepted students who enroll.

Alumna Receives Mortar Board Fellowship

The Mortar Board National Foundation proudly announces that Christy Darling is the recipient of the 2012 Mortar Board Ellen North Dunlap Fellowship, a $2,250 award. Christy graduated summa cum laude in May with a baccalaureate degree in biosystems engineering from Clemson University.

Army ROTC Commissions New Lieutenants

Clemson’s Army ROTC detachment commissioned six new second lieutenants during ceremonies on August 9. On hand to welcome the new lieutenants into the Clemson Corps was its chair, Ed De Iulio, far left. The commissioning ceremony was also a chance to welcome new professor of military leadership, LTC Jimmy Mullinax, far right. Receiving their gold bars were, starting second from left, new 2LTs Parsons, Lundregan, Elbaz, Cloy, Carlson and Burdette. The Clemson Corps is a constituent group of the Alumni Association composed of supporters of Clemson’s military heritage.

CAFLS Alumni Tailgate and Golf Tournament

CAFLS Alumni Tailgate and Golf Tournament

The College of Agriculture, Forestry and Life Sciences (CAFLS) 19th Annual Alumni Tailgate Saturday, October 6th and the 14th Annual Golf Tournament will be held Friday, October 12th at the Walker course benefiting the Tom Skelton Scholarship. The South Carolina Farm Bureau CAFLS Alumni Tailgate festivities are scheduled to begin 3 hours before kickoff of the Clemson vs. Georgia Tech football game at Fike Recreation Center and will feature a silent auction, departmental displays and a SC Tasty Tailgate which includes a chicken sandwich lunch.
