SCCMS, South Carolina’s Coalition for Mathematics and Science brings together advocates from business/industry, education, government and community organizations to catalyze action in five domains identified as key paths to improving science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.
We serve as an active proponent for excellence in STEM education.
Communicate the importance of STEM’s impact on the economic development of our state
Form advocacy networks of all stakeholders to include: Business and Industry, Legislators, Educators, State Economic Development Organizations, Professional Organizations, Parents and Students, Taxpayers
Promote collaborative partnerships among PreK-12 Schools, post-secondary institutions, and business and industry to insure seamless transitions and prepare students with employability skills
Secure funding and promote public policy required for excellence in STEM Education
We partner with organizations pursuing goals consistent with our vision for STEM education to deliver professional development designed to improve student achievement.
Support the SC Department of Education’s Mathematics & Science Coaching Initiative
Increase the use of science and mathematics “kits”
Engage pre-service teacher educators
We support the availability and effective use of exemplary curricula and instructional materials in every school in South Carolina.
Develop effective ways to sustain the use of science and mathematics “kits”
We identify, design and disseminate promising instructional tools and techniques to schools in South Carolina and beyond.
Facilitate networking and communication about programs that are effective and assist with the systemic implementation of these programs.
We seek continual improvement in our own and other programs’ abilities to impact student achievement.
Work with schools, colleges and universities on collaborative efforts to evaluate new and existing programs and provide information on program effectiveness.
