Research and Graduate Student Programs

Within the Forest Resources Department, graduate programs in arboriculture or urban forestry can be individually tailored for students pursuing masters and doctoral degrees. Programs are typically structured to support a student's interests, goals, and research project.  Other departments such as Horticulture, Planning, and Landscape Architecture may also incorporate an urban forestry emphasis.

Recent studies have included reaction of tree roots to soil fill and paving, tree response to variable planting depths, and vegetation management on utility rights-of-way. In addition to University sources, research has been supported through grants from the International Society of Arboriculture Research Trust and Duke Energy.
