The associate dean of engineering and science for research and graduate studies is Dr. R. Larry Dooley. Formerly the department chair for bioengineering, Dr. Dooley earned his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering at Virginia Polytechnic Institute & State University. He completed his Masters and doctoral work in bioengineering here at Clemson. His areas of research interest include scientific visualization, computation modeling, advanced manufacturing techniques, and microstructural engineering of materials.

Reporting to the dean of Engineering and Science, the associate dean of engineering and science for research and graduate studies coordinates various graduate-level activities of the college - including oversight of the college's research centers, alliances and institutes. The associate dean for research and graduate studies assists in the coordination of research activities for the college by identifying and cultivating possible research opportunities. The associate dean approves the GS-2 forms for the college, along with coordinating the Graduate Teaching Assistant Certification Seminar and the Testing Program.

The associate dean is also responsible for the allocation/reallocation of existing space within the college and for planning and facilitating renovations of existing space.

The associate dean also oversees the master's degree programs offered externally.
