Imtiaz Haque leads the Department of Mechanical Engineering, which will administer the graduate program in automotive engineering to be housed in the Carroll A. Campbell Jr. Graduate Engineering Center on the International Center for Automotive Research (CU-ICAR) campus. Clemson’s mechanical engineering department is recognized internationally for its excellence in engineering education and scholarship. It is one of the largest academic departments in South Carolina and a significant source of engineering graduates for the nation.

Haque’s teaching and research interests lie in the general areas of dynamics, vibrations, mechanisms and machines, and manufacturing process simulation. He has been involved with the modeling and simulation of vehicular systems since 1975. He is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and the Society of Automotive Engineers. He has been a member of the ASME Applied Mechanics Transportation Committee and was a founding member of the ASME Material Division Committee on Metal Forming.

He has served as guest editor for the International Journal of Vehicle Design and is a member of the Editorial Board for the International Journal of Heavy Vehicle Systems. He is currently vice chairman of the ASME Design Division Committee on Vehicle Design.

Haque has served as consultant to numerous private and governmental agencies and in 1996-97 spent a sabbatical year at the BMW Research and Engineering Center in Munich, Germany.
