A quarterly report to the faculty and industrial members on activities and developments within the C3B

Winter 2000

The Center for Bioelectronics, Biosensors and Biochips has added Rm. 345, a 600 sq. ft general purpose laboratory in the School of Engineering, to its shared facilities. With the help and support of consortium member Technovation, Inc. (Midlothian, VA), the Center will construct an 8' x 12' modular bio-clean room within this space. This room will house the Center's microfluidics liquid handing robot and PCR machines.

Proposals

Members of the Brain Tumor Biochip Team (Oliver Bogler, William Broaddus and Anthony Guiseppi-Elie) joined with others of the VCU community to propose "CANCER GENOMICS AND DEVELOPMENT OF DIAGNOSTIC TOOLS AND THERAPIES" to the Commonwealth Technology Research Fund under its Strategic Institutional Enhancement Program.   Amount: $ 9.0 Million over 3 years.

NEWS ITEMS

Dara Woerdeman will be serve as Session co-chair for "Composite Materials" at the 24th Annual Meeting of the Adhesion Society  • Feb. 25 - 28, 2001 • Williamsburg, Virginia. Dr. Woerdeman has co-authored the following paper to be presented at this meeting: Joseph Lenhart, Joy Dunkers, John Van Zanten, Dara Woerdeman, Richard Parnas "Localizing Fluorescent Dye to Probe the Buried Interfacial Chemistry"
