The Department of Communication Studies is one of 10 departmental units housed in the College of Architecture, Arts, and Humanities at Clemson University. The department offers a BA in Communication Studies, an MA in Communication, Technology and Society, and is one of several departments collaborating in a Ph.D. program (Rhetorics, Communication, and Information Design). The department administers Clemson University’s Communication Studies Lab, Forensics Team, and supports general education through COMM 150: Introduction to Human Communication and COMM 250: Public Speaking and other courses.
Recent revisions to our undergraduate program and the addition of our MA in Communication, Technology and Society reflect the ever-evolving nature of communication. The Department of Communication Studies is committed to being a leader on state, national, and global levels.
The Department of Communication Studies is home to nationally known scholars conducting cutting-edge communication research in health and sports communication, new communication technologies, organizational communication, media, and culture. Many of the faculty boast degrees from Top-20 research institutions and regularly publish in the most prestigious academic journals, including Journal of Communication, Journal of Applied Communication Research, Communication Research, Communication Education, Journal of Health Communication, Communication Theory, Western Journal of Communication, and Southern Communication Journal.
