Dr. Hawkins (Ph.D., University of Texas-Austin) teaches mainly in the areas of group communication, health communication, communication theory and research methods. Her recent research examines how media effect the choices young people make about their health and fitness. For example, while on the faculty at Wichita State University she worked extensively with the Kansas Health Foundation designing and evaluating health communication campaigns intended to improve the well being of youth in Kansas.
