Dr. David R. Novak (Ph. D., Ohio University) is an assistant professor in the Department of Communication Studies. His research focuses on communication in organizational contexts. Primarily interested in democracy and community, his recent work uses American Pragmatism as a theoretical and philosophical foundation. His dissertation was titled “Flipping the scripts” of poverty and panhandling: Crafting work, doing democracy, and creating connections through StreetWise." Dr. Novak also has interests in social issues as they relate to citizenship (i.e. disability, race, poverty).
Dr. Novak has published articles in the Journal of Applied Communication Research, Southern Communication Journal, and the Basic Communication Course Annual.
