The MSHP program draws its students from across the United States and abroad.  Admission to the program is selective. While there are no specific GPA or GRE cutoffs, faculty members look for evidence of undergraduate achievement and commitment to a career in historic preservation during admissions review.  Submission of a portfolio, while not required, is encouraged.

All applicants

All application materials are due by February 15 of each year and are processed by Clemson University. The following materials are required from all applicants:

Student Drawing

  • Official GRE scores sent directly from Educational Testing Services to Clemson (institution code 5111; no specific subject test is required)
  • Official, sealed transcripts from each college or university you have attended
  • 2-3 letters of recommendation
  • personal statement
  • Online application
  • $80 fee for domestic applicants; $90 fee for international applicants. (The admissions office must receive this fee before your application is processed.)

We encourage all applicants to visit us prior to submitting an application.

Confirmation Payment: Admitted applicants who accept the MSHP program admissions offer will be required to submit a $500 non-refundable confirmation payment expressing their intent to enroll and become eligible to complete the new graduate student onboarding process, including class registration. Upon matriculation into the MSHP program, $470 of the student’s $500 payment will be applied to tuition, minus a $30 processing fee.

International applicants

The program encourages international applications. Official TOEFL scores sent directly from Educational Testing Services to Clemson are required for international applicants whose native language is not English.
