Barcelona, Spain

The Clemson Architecture Program in Barcelona has opened additional opportunities for Clemson undergraduates to acquire an international experience through a semester of study in Spain. Barcelona adds another option towards the goal of having all Clemson undergraduates spend at least one term away from the main campus. The Barcelona program is available to juniors and first semester seniors who have demonstrated superior academic performance and who possess the maturity and responsibility necessary to live and study in a foreign city for one semester. Students will be chosen from the pool of applicants using the selection criteria already in use for the other off-campus programs in Genoa and Charleston; that is, strong academic record, demonstrated dedication to work, and the ability and maturity to be self-guided in an off-campus setting.

Academic Program:

Field Studies consists of two weeks of guided study travel to points of historical and architectural importance in Spain. Probable destinations include: San Sebastian, Bilbao, Salamanca, Segovia, Madrid, Toledo, and Seville.

Instruction in courses for Clemson students will be in English. Most faculty members in the architecture program in Barcelona speak English in addition to Spanish and Catalan. One Clemson professor will be in residence in Barcelona as program director.

Students will be enrolled in 15 credits of coursework that will include:

  • Design Studio 6
  • Lecture Forum 3
  • Theory Seminar 3
  • Field Studies 3
  • Spanish Language/Culture (non-credit bearing)
