Research Interests
John Morgenstern (DPhil, University of Oxford) is a transatlantic modernist with particular interests in interarts approaches to American, British, and Continental European literature; poetry and poetics; and publishing. His current monograph project reconstructs the Parisian cultural controversies that T. S. Eliot witnessed during his student year in France (1910–11), recovering and analyzing arguments concerning literature, the extraliterary arts, religion, philosophy, sociology, and politics that not only resituate the main ideas of Eliot’s work but also those of literary modernism more generally. He is coeditor of The Edinburgh Companion to T. S. Eliot and the Arts (2016) and general editor of The T. S. Eliot Studies Annual (first volume, 2017).
