Allison Harris has taught in composition and literature, as well as worked as Managing Editor of Anthurium: A Caribbean Studies Journal. Her current project, The American Dispossessed, theorizes state-sanctioned dispossessory legislations of the 19th and 20th century as a mechanism for social death and abjection in ethnic groups in the United States. Taking a comparative and relational methodology, the work examines contemporary novels from the late-20th and early-21st centuries to read the resonances of dispossession as it manifests in literary representations of rights, property, and self-possession.
