What Does It Offer?

  1. Three Chinese-related major tracks:
    • International Health / Chinese
    • International Trade / Chinese
    • Modern Language / Chinese
  2. One Minor:
    • Modern Language / Chinese
  3. Faculty-led study-abroad program in two summer sessions.
  4. Extra-curricular activities, including the regular meeting of Chinese Language Club, Chinese movie series, the Spring Festival and Full Moon Festival parties, and more.

Why Study Chinese?

First, Chinese is spoken by over 1.3 billion people. Learning Chinese means to develop an ability to communicate directly with the one fifth human beings.

Second, China has the second largest economy in the world and plays a major role in the international affairs. A good knowledge of Chinese is helpful and important for your career in any fields.

Third, traditional Chinese culture, from Confucianism, Daoism and Chan Buddhism to martial arts and cuisine has tremendously influenced the East and Southeast Asia and greatly inspired the western peoples. A learning of the culture and its language will open a new perspective for you to look at the world as a whole.

Finally, learning Chinese is not as difficult as many people thought. The grammatical structure of Chinese is not only logical, but also pragmatic. The ideographic writing system provides you with a unique visual beauty. Together they will make your experience of learning Chinese pleasant and enjoyable.
