Seville, Spain (Summer)

Clemson in SPAIN Summer 2018 (CLIP)

May 11-June 17, 2018

WELCOME to “Clemson Summer in Seville”!

Sevilla, the capital of Andalusia, is the fourth-largest city in Spain and offers students opportunities to explore Spain's culture, language and history. Blending tradition and modernity, Sevilla is as relaxed as it is energetic, with boundless sunshine, non-stop flamenco dancing, and countless tapas bars. Located on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, student mobility around the city is unmatched with easy access to metro, bus, tram, and bicycle. Recognized for the largest Semana Santa celebration in the country and spectacular turnouts for the Feria de Abril, students will be able to stand alongside local Sevillanos to partake in these unsurpassable Spanish festivities. With over one million inhabitants, the capital city has a lot to offer, without feeling congested or overwhelming like many large cities. Seville is 2.5 hours away from Madrid on the AVE (high-speed train) and even closer by air.

Academic Environment

While in Seville, Clemson University students will enroll in 90 credit hours to be taught by the accompanying Clemson University faculty member. Students register for SPAN 3100, a SIX CREDITS course. Program provides on-site study of the history and culture of the city through readings, lectures, videos, field trips, small student-group explorations, and reporting sessions. All course activities are conducted entirely in Spanish. In addition to in-class learning, the program incorporates visits to various monuments and other places of cultural interest.

Prerequisites: SPAN 2010.

Courses are taught at International Studies Abroad (ISA) Seville Office. ISA is a Global Partner of NAFSA: Association of International Educators, and supports NAFSA's efforts to advance international education and exchange. ISA is also a member of the Forum on Education Abroad and has been recognized and certified by the Forum through its Quality Improvement Program (QUIP). ISA is legally registered in Spain.

Living in Seville

Students live with Spanish families, giving them the opportunity to learn more about Spanish language and culture outside the classroom.

ISA Seville staff will welcome students and faculty upon arrival, lead all excursions, facilitate the orientation program and serve as a cultural liaison for the group throughout the program.

Professor Dolores Martín Armas will be on-site during the entire summer term to assist students.
