The Clemson Language Laboratory is a multifunctional space serving faculty and students in the Department of Languages as well as others throughout the University community.

Located on the first floor of Daniel Hall, the Language Laboratory consists of three fully equipped classrooms, a conference room, and a audio/video recording studio. Courses, language clubs and department related activities/events are held in each of the rooms and free student access is also available outside of class times. The lab was renovated in 2016 and is featured with new equipment (projectors with screens, interactive whiteboards, computers, document cameras, and AirMedia), partition walls that can be opened to combine rooms into larger space, and new furniture.

Language Laboratory Hours

Monday to Thursday: 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM
Friday: 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM

Laboratory Classrooms and Recording Suite

Daniel Hall 104, 106, and 108  are equipped with a lectern, a computer, a projector and screen, a document camera, and 75" Interactive Whiteboards. Each room can seat 22 students. All classrooms are designed for maximum collaboration between students and teachers, allowing for constructive, communicative language and culture instruction. Students and faculty have freedom of movement and the ability to work together on different types of projects within the context of their coursework. Daniel 102 is set up in two parts: a video conference room with a computer and a 75" Interactive Whiteboard that can seat 16 people, and a recording suite with a video shooting room with green walls and an audio recording and video editing room with a computer set up with Adobe Creative Cloud, two monitors, and sound recording equipment.

Equipment and Media Collections

The Language Laboratory maintains a collection of audiovisual materials and equipment. Full-length films as well as instructional videos in each language are available in DVD for individual as well as instructional use. 

Audiovisual equipment resources are also available, including but not limited to:

  • SMART Carts (portable carts with a laptop computer, a projector, and speakers)
  • Blu-Ray player
  • FLIP Cameras
  • Digital Voice Recorders
  • Projectors
  • Document Camera
  • Microsoft Surface Tablets
  • Camera and camcorder
  • Accessories (VGA/HDMI/Audio cords, PPT clickers, adapters, headsets, etc.)
  • Video converter

In addition to the Director, the Laboratory office is staffed with knowledgeable and helpful assistants who are also ready and willing to aid instructors and students as well as collaborate on projects such as online learning, the use of audiovisual materials in the language classroom, and the development of course materials using technology.
