Research Interests: Urban Design, Landscape Globalization, Tech Innovation and International Education

Robert Hewitt FASLA, (MLA MCP PLA) is a Professor of Landscape Architecture at Clemson University’s School of Architecture, and leads the World Design Studio at Clemson. He is a design educator, landscape architect, author, artist, and the recipient of more than 30 awards and honors for his research, exhibitions, practice, and teaching.

Professor Hewitt has authored more than 60 journal articles, refereed exhibitions, books, book chapters, and award winning projects, addressing issues related to landscape globalization, technological innovation, landscape history, and international education. His widely read work on Landscape Globalization is recognized as a key reference. His work on the influence of medicine on urban design published in the Bulletin of Medical History is cited by the CDC.

Professor Hewitt is a finalist for the Rome Prize in Landscape Architecture, and holds appointments as a Visiting Professor at Ain Shams University in Cairo, Egypt, and at Huazhong Agricultural University in Wuhan, China. He has been honored with 3 National Awards for Teaching Excellence by the Council of Educators in Landscape Architecture, and is the Past President of the South Carolina Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects. Professor Hewitt is a Fellow of the American Society of Landscape Architects.
