Daniel Kirkpatrick is Adjunct Assistant Professor of Percussion at Clemson University. He is also the Principal Timpanist of the Symphony Orchestra Augusta in Augusta, Georgia, under the baton of Shizuok "Z" Kuwahara, where he serves as Chairman of the Player's Committee. Kirkpatrick is currently serving as Acting Principal Timpanist of the Greenville Symphony Orchestra, under the baton of Edvard Tchivzhel. He is an active freelance teacher and performer in the South Carolina and Georgia regions, often performing with the Hendersonville and Asheville Symphonies and the South Carolina Philharmonic Orchestra. Mr. Kirkpatrick has held teaching positions in Maryland, Texas, Wisconsin, and most recently in South Carolina. He has extensive experience teaching students ranging from young beginners to professional musicians. He is also an Adjunct Professor of Percussion and Music Theory at Anderson University in Anderson, South Carolina. In October 2012, he was a Visiting Professor at Furman University in Greenville, South Carolina. Daniel is part of the Remo family of Education Artists and uses exclusively Remo Timpani heads. He also endorses Vic Firth drumsticks and mallets. Kirkpatrick regularly gives clinics on timpani head replacement and tuning, all-region and college audition preparation, and percussion repair. Kirkpatrick earned a Master of Music in percussion performance, with honors, with a focus in timpani from the University of Wisconsin - Milwaukee, where he studied timpani with Dean Borghesani, Principal Timpanist of the Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra. Daniel earned his Bachelor of Music Performance in percussion performance, cum laude, from the University of North Texas College of Music. While at UNT, Daniel was principal timpanist of the UNT Symphony and Chamber orchestras under the batons of Maestros Anshel Brusilow and Dr. Clay Couturiaux. He studied with Christopher Deane, Mike Drake, Mark Ford, and Paul Rennick. Kirkpatrick founded DK Percussion in 2004 and has produced custom made carbon fiber timpani mallets for students and professionals alike. The repair business began in 2007 and continues to serve the needs of national and international customers. Most recently, DK Percussion has started to grow its manufacturing capabilities and now offers chain timpani parts and kits, along with CNC-machined tuning bolts and other custom machined products. Daniel is extremely proud of not only his work and products, but the fact that this long-term goal has finally come to fruition. Daniel lives in Greenville, South Carolina with his wife, Emily. Daniel and Emily have a beagle named "Teddy" and a cockatiel named "Bird." Daniel enjoys roasting coffee, Perl programming, and tinkering in his workshop when he's not busy practicing, teaching, or performing.
